Haven is a striking original painting by Kirsty Nixon, featuring two Tūī perched amongst iconic Aotearoa native bush. Each bird rests on a separate Harakeke flax stem, their iridescent feathers glowing with rich greens and blues as they sit quietly within the foliage.

Surrounding them, flowering Cabbage Tree and the glossy leaves of Karaka, dotted with golden berries, add vibrant detail and depth to the scene. Soft powder-blue skies break through from the upper left, bringing a sense of calm and openness to the composition. Evoking a gentle stillness within the landscape, Haven celebrates the beauty and presence of one of Aotearoa’s most treasured native birds. This original painting is part of Little River Gallery's exhibition Birds of a Feather.
