A unique opportunity to bring Kirsty Nixon’s art into your world, personally crafted just for you.

Commissioning an artwork is a gentle collaboration between artist and collector—an opportunity to honour a personal connection to place, to nature, or to a meaningful moment in time. Kirsty welcomes a limited number of commissions each year, creating bespoke pieces that speak to your story while remaining true to her artistic language.

The Process

The Process

1. Getting in Touch

To begin your journey, please complete the contact form (below) or reach out via email. Whether you have a clear vision or just a feeling you'd like captured in paint, Kirsty will gently guide you through the possibilities.

2. A Shared Vision

If your request aligns with Kirsty’s style and current schedule, she’ll arrange a consultation—either by phone, video call, or email—to learn more about what you hope the artwork will hold. Subject matter, size, tones, and meaning are all explored with care.

3. Quotation & Booking

Following your consultation, you’ll receive a formal quote. To confirm the commission and reserve your place in Kirsty’s calendar, a 50% non-refundable deposit is required. This ensures mutual commitment and allows the creative process to begin with intention.

4. Creation in Flow

Each piece is created slowly and intuitively, over a period of 4–8 weeks. Kirsty may share a quiet glimpse mid-way if you’d like—but many clients choose to wait, letting the final unveiling be part of the magic.

5. Completion & Delivery

Once your artwork is complete, the remaining 50% balance is due. Paintings are sealed with a protective archival varnish, and carefully prepared for shipping or collection. Delivery can be arranged anywhere in New Zealand or beyond.

Important Notes

Important Notes

Kirsty’s Style

All commissions are created in Kirsty’s established style using acrylic on canvas. While she doesn’t replicate photographs exactly, she welcomes reference imagery as inspiration and will do her best to capture the essence of your vision. Her work isn’t photorealistic—but instead aims to evoke the spirit of the subject with sensitivity, and joy.

Revisions

Due to the nature of Kirsty’s practice and the medium of acrylic, revisions cannot typically be accommodated once painting is underway. The fluidity of her technique and the layered approach intrinsic to her style mean that alterations are rarely possible without compromising the integrity of the work.

For this reason, the initial consultation is an essential part of the commissioning process. It is during this exchange that your vision is thoughtfully explored—ensuring alignment on subject, palette, scale, and sentiment before the first brushstroke is made.

Cancellations

If you choose to cancel after work has begun, the deposit will be retained. Should Kirsty need to cancel for any reason, your deposit will be fully refunded.

Copyright & Reproduction

Copyright remains with the artist. The commissioned artwork is for personal display only and may not be reproduced or used commercially. Kirsty may photograph the final piece for her portfolio or promotional use.

Commission Experiences

"I am just about in tears (happy ones!)—it is perfect. It captures the essence of what we wanted. Today is Mother’s Day, and this is a painting in memory of my mother, so you could not have timed this better!"

. Diane .

"The painting arrived this week and I'm in LOVE!! Thank you, Kirsty, once again for a stunning piece in memory of Mum. The bird flying freely spoke to me the minute I saw this piece, and I'm so thrilled you could replicate it for me. It's now hanging in pride of place by our front door."

. Emma .

"It looks awesome and is the perfect piece—both in terms of the painting itself and the size. We’ve already had a number of really positive comments. Thank you so much!"

. Warren .

"Oh my goodness—my eyes are foggy... You don't know what this means. You will when we meet and I give you a bear hug!"

. Janine .

"I've been admiring your painting since I got home — I just love it. Funny thing is, as I said, I always envisioned one of your paintings with water. As soon as I saw this one, I thought, wow, that’s it. I can’t thank you enough."

. Nicola .

"It looks stunning at the top of our stairs! The Pīwakawaka seem to watch you as you climb the staircase. Thanks, Kirsty."
